At Tsujita LA Artisan Noodles, located on Sawtelle Blvd in West LA, expect both a culinary treat and a wait due to its immense popularity. While they’re traditionally celebrated for their tsukemen, they offer a tonkotsu pork broth ramen that stands out in its own right. This creamy, light, and silky broth promises satisfaction with every slurp. The dish is topped with chashu, wood ear mushrooms, green onion, and seaweed, and paired with thin noodles.

Keep in mind, parking can be a challenge during peak times. If you plan on visiting during these hours, it’s wise to allocate some extra time for parking. To skip the wait for a table, arrive just as they swing open their doors for service.

The Lemon Tonkotsu at Tatsunoya Ramen was a special feature during the month of June 2023. This unique bowl started with a base of their expertly crafted pork broth, a recipe honed over decades at the shop. Thin slices of lemon, green onions, and black pepper topped off the dish, pairing with thin, delicate noodles. The lemon cut through the richness of the pork, offering a refreshing contrast that brightened the bowl. While the inclusion of a slice of chashu would have been welcomed, the Lemon Tonkotsu was, overall, good.

As we move into July, we bid farewell to this limited-time dish, a testament to Tatsunoya Ramen’s consistent high standards. Remember, this enticing bowl was a one-month special for June 2023. Hopefully, Tatsunoya will continue to mix things up with more interesting limited-time specials in future.

If you are looking for a spicy bowl of tonkotsu ramen while shopping at the Westfield Mall in Century City then look no further than Ramen Nagi. This location is located on the top floor on the opposite end of the food court.

This shop makes eating ramen a quick exercise. While you wait in line outside, you fill out a customization sheet. After you are seated, the waiter will take your order sheet which gets your order started immediately. In just a few minutes your customized bowl of ramen is delivered.

A blend of garlic, chili oil, and cayenne pepper in a velvety broth; topped with a ball of miso infused minced pork and chashu. Served with thick noodles.

Tokyo Tonkotsu @ Tonchin Ramen

The newly established Tonchin Ramen in the Larchmont neighborhood of LA is a place you should try if you are in the mood for a legit bowl of ramen. You can watch them make fresh noodles in the special room while you wait to be seated. This place is especially busy in the evenings, so I recommend that you make reservations in advance. Otherwise, you’ll probably be waiting for a while.

Pork Curry Ramen from Kotoya Ramen. Pork based broth with lots of curry flavor. Topped with pork chashu, corn, beansprouts, and wood ear mushrooms. This is a hearty bowl. I can’t wait till it’s gets cold here in LA. These types of bowls are my favorite bowls to crush with the weather dips below the average of 70 degrees.

Garlic Truffle Tonkotsu from Silverlake Ramen. Creamy pork and veg soup. Topped with thick cuts of pork chashu, kale (not pictured), truffle oil, garlic, mushrooms (not pictured), seaweed, and seasoned egg. They were out of mushrooms when we ordered and I think if you want to try this it def needs the mushrooms. Otherwise the truffle flavor falls flat. I think this needs to be paired with the mushrooms to make it a hit.
