The shop changed its name from Tsurumen Davis to Tsurumen 1000 after serving noodles for 1,000 operating days. Keep in mind: the area around the shop often bustles with activity. Parking might pose a challenge, so allocate extra time for street parking. Also, double-check their operating hours before visiting. They don’t stay open all day, unlike some other ramen shops.

I can’t wait to return to Tsurumen 1000 and dive into their signature bowls. The large noodle serving of the Tsukemen from Mendoki is 250g before cooking. After cooking, it works out to about 450g. The noodles were chewy and medium in length. I recommend squeezing the lemon on the noodles prior to dipping.

The broth was thin and had a hint of bitterness from the fish flavors that are present.

The head chef was trained at the legendary chain Taishoken in Japan. Taishoken is known for their tsukemen. Given this background, you’ll be enjoying some of the best available dipping noodles in California.
