You may be surprised to find some amazingly unique ramen near LAX. While I usually steer away from shops that aren’t solely focused on ramen. That lack of focus tends to provide sub par ramen. However, Kanpai Ramen and Sushi bar is a legit restaurant that takes care of all the Japanese food they produce. I’ve come here multiple times for sushi and ramen and it’s never let me down. They have a great happy hour too with lots of adult beverages to help you unwind.

The Gravy Ramen sounds a bit unusual, but it really hit the spot. It’s a thick gravy like pork and vegetable broth and thick noodles.

Tonkotsu Ramen From Yamachan Ramen

Want to make great pork ramen at home? Try the Yamachan Ramen kits. Each kit gives you two main things: noodles and a tasty pork broth starter.

Here’s how to make your ramen:

Cooking the Noodles: Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add the noodles from the kit. Cook them until they’re just right – not too soft and not too hard.
Making the Broth: In another pot, heat up some water. When it’s hot, mix it with the pork broth concentrate from the kit. This will make a rich and flavorful soup.
Bringing it Together: Drain the cooked noodles and put them in a bowl. Pour the hot broth over them.

Now, the fun part! While the kit gives you the basics, you can add some extras to make it even better. Think about adding slices of homemade chashu – it’s pork that’s been cooked slowly until it’s really tender. A soft boiled egg is another great addition; it’s rich and creamy. And, for a bit of fresh taste and color, sprinkle some sliced green onions on top.

The kit doesn’t come with these toppings, so you’ll need to get them yourself. But trust me, it’s worth it.

With Yamachan Ramen and your own toppings, you’ll have a bowl that’s way better than quick instant ones like Cup Noodles or Top Ramen.

Tonkotsu Ramen is a tasty and easy option for those of us that are locked up at home.

The Tokusei Tsukemen from Taishoken. This has a rich dipping sauce made with pork, chicken, dried anchovy, and dried bonito. Thick noodles are topped with pork chashu, sous-vide Berkshire pork chashu, soft boiled egg, bamboo, seaweed, and green onion. This bowl is special for the use of two styles of pork. The traditional thick chashu that melts in your mouth and the sous-vide Berkshire pork. These compliment each other really well.

They are hand pulling their noodles daily, so these are really good.

This drink is awesome. It’s like carbonated water with a hint of malt and hops. It’s refreshing choice since they don’t serve beer currently.

Triple soup of chicken, pork, and fish. Japanese soy sauce, aroma oils, fried aromatics, sous vide pork chashu, green onion, bamboo shot, and whole wheat noodles.

The fried aromatics are really present in this bowl. You’ll notice the fried onion pieces throughout the broth.

I believe they are making their own noodles. Delicious and great texture. Making for easy slurping
